Somalia’s Danab brigade this morning took over the control of Aw Dheegle town in Lower Shabelle, dislodging Al-Shabaab fighters. Lower Shabelle administration officials confirmed the seizure of the town, which lies 70 km south of Mogadishu, from the militant group Al-Shabaab which had a presence in the town.
This is not the first time the Somali forces seized control of the town from Al-Shabaab, but this latest development comes amid ongoing military operations in Lower Shabelle that has so far seen the liberation of key towns like Barire, Sabid and Anole.
The ongoing military operation in the Lower Shabelle received commendation from the public and Somalia’s international partners with the Somali forces encouraged to sustain the fight against the militants.
