AFGOI, Somalia – Suspected Somali militants attacked Turkish contractors and Somali police in the town of Afgoi, 30km south of the Somali capital Mogadishu, officials said.
Witnesses and police said that a suicide car bomber hit at a site where heavily guarded road construction work by Turkish engineers were underway killing several and wounding dozens.
“Police cars were seen caught on fire and debris soon after the attack” Osman Ali a witness said.
There are no official casualties of the attack and no group claimed the responsibility for the attack.
However, Somali government officials said as reported by the local media that several people were killed including soldiers and Turkish contractors in the Afgoi suicide car bombing.
The attack follows an in overnight on a base by Somali armed forces and claimed by Al-Shabab, a Somalia’s affiliate to Alqaeda.
