Who will act as UK Prime Minister?
Liz Truss has resigned as the Prime Minister of the UK, after 45 days in office, and political confusion prevailed.
Her resignation prompted the second election of the party’s leadership to be held in four months.
It has already started the competition among the various leaders of the party to fill the vacant position.
Truss said a replacement would be chosen next week.
Boris Johnson is one of the dignitaries said to be considering taking part in the race, but Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt has said he has no desire to run.
According to party rules, any leadership hopeful will need to secure the support of 100 MPs to run—this means a maximum of three candidates.
The first vote will be held for the MPs, and the person with the fewest votes will be eliminated if there are three candidates.
If a second vote is required, MPs will be able to nominate who they want to lead the party.
If both candidates prefer to remain in the race, the final decision will go to the party members through an online vote.
Truss will be the shortest-serving prime minister in British history when she steps down.
